BEHIND THE SCENES

Process

Firstly I created a list of objects in Peniche I want to present in the pop ups. Then I tried different paper engineering techniques and approaches with 80 g waste paper and applied them on my designs for the Peniche pop ups.

I created many prototypes and when I was satisfied, I started working with thicker coloured paper and used square paper format as the book base.

Then I started with drawing and cutting key elements and then glued them together to see if the pop up folds correctly. Then I added details and did some more engineering. I created each page separately and at the end, when I was satisfied with the look and folding, I glued all the pages together, sat on them and then clip them with clippers to make sure they stayed together.

While waiting for them to dry, I created cover page with the thicker paper and cutted some Matisse inspired shapes from waste paper to decorate it. When the pages were glued and dry, and the cover was ready, I just glued them all together.
